CultaCoat: natural protection against dehydration and frost

CultaCoat is an environmentally friendly plant coating that helps protect trees, plants, roots, bulbs and tubers against dehydration. The biodegradable coating reduces evaporation during transplanting, storage and transport and supports vulnerable planting material during drought, heat and late night frosts, without leaving harmful residues.

When should you use CultaCoat?

CultaCoat is suitable when plants or planting material temporarily need extra protection against dehydration. This includes transplanting, transport, storage or warm conditions in which roots, cuttings, leaves, bulbs and tubers lose moisture more quickly.

CultaCoat can also be used when there is a risk of late night frosts to support vulnerable blossoms and plant parts. The coating helps limit moisture loss, improving resilience to adverse weather conditions.

How does the protective plant coating work?

CultaCoat consists of a glucosamine derivative and polyvinyl acetate. After application, the product forms a thin film on leaves, roots, bulbs or tubers, slowing the evaporation of water from the treated planting material.

The coating also limits the loss of starch, an important energy source for plants. Depending on the conditions, the protective layer remains in place for one week to several months, after which it naturally breaks down.

Applying CultaCoat in practice

CultaCoat can be applied by spraying or dipping. The usual mixing ratio is one part CultaCoat to twenty parts cold water, with the solution applied evenly to the planting material.

  • Test compatibility with other products in a measuring jug before mixing
  • Do not apply CultaCoat directly to fruit or vegetables
  • Clean spraying and dipping equipment thoroughly after application
  • Store the product in a cool, dark place
  • Keep in mind that shelf life is limited after opening

Which plants is CultaCoat suitable for?

The coating can be applied to trees, plants, rhizomes, cuttings and young planting material. Particularly during transplanting, CultaCoat helps reduce dehydration and sun scorch, which can reduce plant losses.

Chicory roots, potatoes, flower bulbs and other tubers can also be treated during refrigerated storage. The protective layer helps limit moisture loss, contributing to the preservation of planting material quality.
